Project team
Meet The Team

Prof. Michael Rogerson
I try and work across all the parts of the team (stalagmites, loess and modelling) and do my best to keep them joined up and integrated! I like a challenge.
Director of Research and Knowledge Exchange,
Geography and Environmental Sciences,
Northumbria University
Newcastle
NE1 8QH
Mr. Moez Mansoura
I organise knowledge about our field sites, and lead the missions into the field. I am Deputy Chief of the Geological Survey in Tunisia, and use this foundation to underpin our efforts.
Assistant Director of Geology,
Office National des Mines, 24 Rue de l’énergie, 2035, La Charguia, Tunis, Tunisia

Dr. Mahjoor Lone
I mainly manage work package 1 of the project, whereby I use stalagmites to generate paleoclimatic data. I also assist team members in work package 2 to collect and analyze Loess samples.
Post-Doctoral Research Associate,
Geography and Environmental Sciences, Northumbria University, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 8ST, UK
Dr. Anna Bird
I lead the work on loess (windblown dust deposited in the Jebel Dahar region of southern Tunisia. I will be using a range of mass spectrometry tools to work out where the dust came from, so we can reconstruct the prevailing wind directions.
Reader in Geology,
School of Environmental Sciences, University of Hull, Cottingham Road, Hull, HU6 7RX

Prof. Sandy Harrison
I lead the quantitative work using models and simulations to understand the data produced by Workpackages 1 and 2. In this end, we hope this improves out ability to make forecasts of future climate change.
Professor of palaeoclimates and biogeochemical cycles, School of Archaeology, Geography and Environmental Science, University of Reading, RG6 6AH, UK.
Dr. Marc Luetscher
I work on both field teams providing rope access and field logistics support, and on the science team of Workpackage 1 to monitor the cave and understand the stalagmite records.
Director of SISKA, Chaux-de-Fonds, CH-2300, Switzerland.

Dr. Dirk Hoffmann
I provide the dates on the stalagmites, so we know how old the record they contain is.
Manager of ICPMS & TIMS Labs, Fakultät für Geowissenschaften und Geographie, Abteilung Isotopengeologie, Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, Goldschmidtstraße 1, 37077 Göttingen, Germany
Prof. Christoph Spötl
I provide expertise in stable isotope science, and in combining separate stalagmite records into composites
Professor of Quaternary Science, Institute of Geology, University of Innsbruck, Austria.
Dr. Yury Dublyanski
I run the fluid inclusion facility which will allow us to measure the chemistry of rain that fell in Africa hundreds of thousands of years go.
Senior Scientist, Institute of Geology, University of Innsbruck, Austria.
Prof. Nejib Kallel
I provide long records from the Mediterranean Sea which we can compare the new stalagmite and loess records to
Professor of Palaeoclimatology, University of Sfax, Sfax, Sakiet Ezzite, Tunsisia

Dr. Noureddine Elmejdoub
I work on both workpackages, providing data and samples about water in Tunisia and working on sampling the loess.
Assistant Professor, University of Gabes
Address: High Institute of Water Sciences and Techniques, University of Gabes. Erriadh City, 6033, Zrig, Gabes, Tunisia.

Dr. Barbara Mauz
I am doing the OSL dating on loess samples, focussing on the quartz grains and radiometric dose rates. I also help organise all the loess-sampling fieldwork.
Research Fellow, University of Liverpool, Liverpool, L69 3BX, UK
Department of Environment and Biodiversity, University of Salzburg, Austria

Dr. Ian Millar
I work on the mineral geochronology measurements supporting the provenance measurements of the loess.
Research Scientist
